ETH is on the edge of complete collapse. 170+ political opposition jailed, and GVT plans elections. Over 50K innocents jailed in Oromia, and over 40K displaced from the war in Tigray. Conflict is rife in other regions. The “union” is beyond repair. #OromiaIndependenceDay @jumuiya
Countries in the horn of Africa and beyond must begin to comprehend that the region will be home to a new sovereign nation, Oromia. Depending on what other nations occupied by ETH decide to do, more nations will assume sovereignty. #OromiaIndependenceDay #OromoProtests @jumuiya
Self-determination and freedom from the colonial occupation are both internationally recognized human rights. ETH was created via colonial ambition and today operates as a structural empire. The Oromo nation has every right to become free of ETH. #OromiaIndependenceDay @jumuiya
As an institution interested in regional integration and cooperation, the EAC must consider the benefits of allying with Oromia’s aspiration for independence. Once it has achieved its statehood, Oromia will become a robust regional contributor. #OromiaIndependenceDay @jumuiya
If Oromia were an independent country, it would rank 30th globally and the 7th in Africa in population size. It's a resource-rich land that can see its citizens' lives wholly transformed if not exploited, as is currently the case. #OromiaIndependenceDay @jumuiya
Formed in the 1970s, The #OromoliberationArmy is a growing insurgency fighting to liberate the Oromo nation from the ETH empire. With presence across most of Oromia and strong public support, the #OLA will entirely secure Oromia. #OromiaIndependenceDay #OromoProtests @jumuiya
Neocolonial influences can subvert localized calls for self-determination. These influencers may have political & economic interest in self-determination being sidelined. When neocolonialism is involved, African nations must draw clear boundaries. #OromiaIndependenceDay @jumuiya
It doesn’t take much to recognize that the ETH GOV is committing war crimes across the country. In Oromia, there has not been a moment in ETH’s history, where war crimes have not been the norm. @AbiyAhmedAli’s leadership has meant no different. #OromiaIndependenceDay @jumuiya
January 1st has been a day of celebration and commemoration for the #OromoLiberationArmy since the 1980s. We don't know when Oromia will be free again, but this year, we ask Oromos and allies to envision January 1st as that day. #OromiaIndependenceDay #OromoProtests @jumuiya
#Oromia gaining its #independence will produce many regional benefits. They include political autonomy that supports greater economic prosperity and regional integration, repatriation of thousands of refugees, and an end to violent state culture. #OromiaIndependenceDay @jumuiya
